Today I have a question for you…actually more of a story.
When I started out my entrepreneurial journey, I always had this mindset of: Once I have money...Once I have success...Once I have all these resources...THEN I can do bigger things to be successful and to be happy and to have all that stuff, right?!
That's what I was doing and that's what a lot of people make the mistake of doing in their own business.
They think once they're successful...once they have money...THEN they can go to that seminar...THEN they can take that course...THEN they can do the action steps that will make them successful because they think that success is a prerequisite to success and that's not the case.
That's something that I struggled with for a really long time!
And that's what I want to talk to you about today because today is all about why most people never hit their big goals and why I failed to hit mine for a year. I'm going to teach you a framework that I learned from James Wedmore that can change everything for you if you live it!
Wouldn't you agree that there is- ‘where you are’ and ‘where you want to be’?
There’s a gap.
There's a gap in the middle that you perceive where you are vs where you want to be. But the gap in the middle is actually imaginary.
It is completely imaginary!
You actually can be where you want to be right now and I'll show you how!
So first of all, you need to stop looking for the missing ingredient or missing system. Have you ever done that? You sit there and you go, “Oh, that tracking system will help me” or “I need that thing to help me” or “I need to make sure that I have the perfect scripts or the perfect invite sequence” or whatever…
Right?
You're looking for the perfect system or the perfect ingredients. But here's the thing- those courses, those trainings, all that stuff...if you've done them before and they haven't worked for you. What's the first thing that comes up? The first thing that comes up is you go, it just doesn't work, right?!
It doesn't work. It seems broken!
But here's the thing. Those strategies aren't broken. They're not wrong. They've worked for people before.
Wouldn't you agree? They've worked for people.
So how many tools do you have? How many things do you have? A course or a script or a swipe file or something that's taught you how to do your business in terms of strategy? You have the things, right?
How many tools do you have to make that business happen? And it's still not where you want it to be, right? You're still not at that final destination that you want it to be.
So what's the common denominator?!
If those courses have worked for a lot of other people and those scripts have worked for a lot of other people and the systems have worked for a lot of other people.
What's missing? What's the common denominator? What's the missing link?
Is it actually the training that doesn't work?! Because it's working for others..
No, it is you!
It's who you are being in the process.
So my point with all of this is that success is created within first! Your business is a reflection of you… of who you are being.
If you want different results, you have to become a different version of you!
Here's what a lot of people do. They get inspired by something. They hear something and then they go and attack success when they're super pumped up or super motivated, but they haven't changed who they're actually being.
They see where they were before and think that's just the way it's going to be. So if you want different results, you need a different you! If you don’t change you, there's no way your business results are gonna change.
Change who you are and change your business.
So how do we do this?!
Well, most people run their businesses backwards.
I'm going to teach you a model (that I learned from James Wedmore) that can change everything. This is what a lot of people do, I touched on in the beginning of this episode. What a lot of people do is they follow the Have-Do-Be model.
What that means is they think
“Once I have time”’
“Once I have money”
“Once I have freedom”
“Once I have success”
“Once I have resources”...THEN I can do all the things and I'll be successful.
“Once I have the stuff...THEN I'll do the things and I'll be successful.”
That is a very big problem because what's happening is you're waiting for circumstances to change and that will never work! It will never work!
Nothing will change if you wait for circumstances to change, you'll repeat your current circumstances over and over and over again.
Most of what you want is out of your control anyways. Right? So think about time, right? “I don't have the time, but once I have the time, then I'll be able to do that.”
Well, here's a question for you. Will you ever have the time?! If you don't change anything? No you won't. So, if that's a mindset, then you're not going to take action and you're not going to be successful, right?
Having something doesn't determine who you are.
That's so important to understand! That's the model that most people follow Have-Do-Be. Once they HAVE something then they'll DO the things to BE successful.
We need to flip it!
Most people set their goals that way. We need to follow the Be-Do-Have model.
It all starts with being who you are becoming in the process.
You always have a choice on a day-to-day basis of who you are going to be in that moment!
How do we do this?!
Great entrepreneurs start with the end in mind.
Think about ‘Have’. What do you want to have? And that's a specific goal or a result. Is it six figures in your business? Is it to retire your spouse? Is it to hit a certain rank, a certain income goal? The elite title in your MLM Business, whatever it is, what are your specific goal or results? What do you want to have?!
Then we want to reverse engineer backwards, so we know who we need to ‘Be’.
Now to create that goal. This is what most people don't do, but need to: Start with the end in mind.
What do you want to ‘have’? What's that goal or that result that you want? Once you have that, then what do you need to ‘Do’? What is the required action? Let's work backwards. Let's reverse engineer. Okay?
So what would be the required action to make that goal happen? No result can change without changing what you ‘Do’. You'll need to do stuff to make that goal happen, right? You need to take massive action and chances are it's bigger than the action you've been taking.
It's more elevated, something scarier. It's something bigger.
So what type of action, if you're being totally honest with yourself, what action do you need to take to get to that desired result? What are the action steps that you actually need to take to get to that desired result?
Here's what most people do:
They'll say, “I just need to have more conversations” right? If you're building a network marketing business, sure that might be true. You do need to have more conversations, but think in terms of that result. What will actually create that result? Is it doing more live trainings? Is it doing what's out of your comfort zone?
What's that next level of what you can do to create that result? Does action help? Absolutely! Action helps, but it's not just about the doing.
It's about doing the right things the right way! The right things, the right way.
If all you do is hustle, you're going to get burnt out because you're doing things to do things, but you're not doing them from an elevated state of being. You're starting them with the wrong mindset! What do you need to do to create that and have that goal, that dream, and then be doing the right things?
The right way is determined by who you're being. And this is where we start!
We start with who we are being. This area of ‘Be’ is the sum total of your thoughts, your beliefs, your mindset, your interstate, your energy that you're bringing to the table on a day-to-day basis.
Check this right now: notice how do you actually feel right now in this moment? How do you actually feel like how check your state, what is your state? You actually control this. So if you don't believe it, remember a time that you felt confident, you controlled that by what you focused on and what you felt in the moment. You always control it. Emotional states are a choice.
And you might not feel that way. You might not believe that. And it's just because you haven't learned how, and by the way, if you want to learn how to control your emotional states, you gotta check out Appreciation Academy for that.
But states are a choice. And by states I mean your emotional feelings that you have on a day-to-day basis. They are a choice!
So who will you be right now?!
Who do you need to be to do those scary action steps, so you can have the goal? You don't need to choose who you've been in the past.
By the way, here's what a lot of people do: “I'm not a confident person.” That's what they say. When you say that, what you're doing is you're using who you've been in the past as a reason to not be able to create change in the future. You're choosing to not have confidence in the future because of this. And that’s not fair to you! So this is all about who you're BEING.
After all, the reason you go after these big goals isn't for the goals themselves.
It's for the feelings and the person that you're becoming in the process of creating those goals.
That's what you're actually going to be proud of down the line when you're 85 years old. Looking back at your life...ask yourself if we're working backwards from what you want to have…who would I be if having this goal wasn't inevitable? Who would you be if having that goal is inevitable? Or even better, who would you be if you already had that goal right now?!
If you already had that goal right now, who would be the person capable of creating that? How would that person think? Would they be confident? Would they be energetic? Would they be positive? What would you believe? What would you believe about yourself, your success, the people around you, the people that you're with on a day-to-day basis, your teammates?
What would you believe? What characteristics and thoughts and feelings would you have if you had that goal already? What would you start focusing on differently? What would you stop focusing on? Who do you need to be to create that goal?
Be that person now and you'll have the things that you want!
Does that make sense? It's not, once I have that, I'll do, so I can be. It's- I will BE, so I DO the bigger things, the right way, at the right time, and with the right mindset, so I create the goals. It's not the other way around.
Be that person now! And that will make you take the right action, the right way. So you have the things that you want to HAVE.
Most people do it backwards.
Not YOU! Not Anymore. BE the new you that already has those goals. So take a moment and think about that really big dream.
This will be your homework coming out of here today!
Take a look at that really big dream, that really big goal, that thing that you really want to achieve so badly. You haven't been able to do it yet. And go through this exercise.
Who are you? What would you need to do to actually create that? If you're being totally honest with yourself, what would you need to do and if you don't know, find a role model that's done it before. What would you need to do to create that? Then reverse engineer it back. Who is that person being on a day-to-day basis? Cause you get to choose on a day-to-day basis who you're being, what your mindset is, your emotional state, your energy and how you feel that is 100% choice up to you!
Be that person now and the goal will come to you so much faster.
