Turns out, it doesn’t matter how many Top 50 podcasts you listen to or how many personal development books you read… you won’t be able to have 6-figure success without rewiring your mind to overcome these 5 mistakes first. Today, see for yourself which mistake(s) might be keeping you stuck in mediocrity.
Mistake #1: Nothing great is ever created on your own
Most people make the mistake of thinking they can do it all themselves. They believe getting help is a sign of weakness.
These same people pride themselves on being able to handle it all and rationalize that they can figure everything out themselves, and, therefore, shouldn’t need to ask for help.
They couldn’t be farther from the truth.
That self-reliance costs valuable time. You can waste decades trying to figure it out yourself, or possibly never even get to the results you want. Then there’s the “weight” factor to consider. The weight of frustration as time continues to pass by without any change. The weight of feeling like your spouse doesn’t support you. It all adds up to overwhelm and frustration, and ultimately pushes you farther away from success.
If you look at successful people, they think very differently. They know:
If you want to go fast, go by yourself.
If you want to go far, you go with other people.
They view asking for help as a sign of strength because—and write this down—every single person on earth has blind spots. Without someone to point them out, they know they’ll struggle for years only to feel like they’re spinning their wheels uselessly.
So do a quick analysis. Are you trying to avoid asking for help or enrolling in a course like Rewired, or other programs and not getting the help you need because you think you can do it all yourself? You won’t be able to create radical change in your life without having someone point out your blind spots, investing in change, and going all in on yourself (rather than just dabbling in the idea of change but never following through).
Mistake #2: Working harder isn’t the key to success
Success isn’t a matter of how hard you work, it’s alignment and getting into a state of emotional alignment.
Most people will slam their head against the door of success and continue to do the same things that haven’t been working, thinking it’s going to somehow get them where they want to go. But all it creates is constant exhaustion and burnout. Even if you’re on the couch with your kids, you’re too drained to be present and afterward feel massive guilt.
That’s the byproduct of doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
If you keep believing working harder is the key, you’re going to put in endless effort only for results to constantly evade you. You’ll try to avoid failure and tiptoe around the edges of your dream instead of taking bold, courageous action because you’ll constantly seek certainty before doing anything. You’ll stay trapped. Be overworked and underpaid.
You need to rewire your mind into a different way of being and set of beliefs that are the core of who you are if you want 6-figure success. Only then will your efforts start working for you instead of against you.
Mistake #3 Thinking you can read or study your way to success
We touched on this briefly in Mistake #1, but I’ll expand. Doubling down on reading and learning about personal development isn’t going to lead to success.
But why?
Why doesn’t reading more personal development increase your income, raise your confidence, or crush your bad habits? Because you can study all day long, but if your mind is wired for failure nothing will change. You’ll subconsciously use personal development as an excuse to stay in your comfort zone and escape having to face your limiting beliefs hiding in your mental blind spots.
Those limiting beliefs are the true hindrance to growth. Because if you can’t identify and shatter them, they will subconsciously skew every personal development book you read. Not only that, you won’t become the 6-figure high performer you were meant to become.
Mistake #4 Not thinking like a high performer
Most people never act on the voice inside them that says, “I know I’m meant for more.” They let fear win and are left with a dull and achy regret. A lot of society also believes that their worth is tied to a goal or outcome and can end up bouncing from task to task feeling like their worthiness is a moving target.
Nothing ever seems like it’s enough.
These same average people also mistakenly think they need more money or time before they can take a leap of faith on themselves. They’ll say, “I don’t have the money right now,” or “I don’t have the time or energy.”
But let’s be clear about one thing. They’re excuses.
You need to change before you find more time and money, because success doesn’t care about your circumstances. It only comes to high performers who do something differently about their circumstances.
What is that something different? They sprint in the opposite direction of what society is doing.
They invest heavily in their personal growth because they trust it’s how they’ll reach their next level of success. They take risks because the pain of mediocrity is far greater than the pain of failure. And they never make decisions based on their current life circumstances, but on their dreams.
If this is hitting close to home, remember: you’re listening to this show for a reason right now.
You know you need to do something different to get different results in your life.
Now, what I’m about to say next may be the most important thing you’ll ever hear about creating 6-figure success: Nobody is coming to change your circumstances. Nobody. You have to participate in your own rescue.
Changing your life is 100% your responsibility.
If you want to create true and lasting success, then you need to learn how to rewrite the narratives that play on autopilot in your head, limiting your future.
Mistake #5 Playing it small/playing it safe
To understand this mistake, we need to first understand how change actually happens.
The very first thing that happens is you're satiated with what's going on in your life. You're kind of full, and a little sick of it. Then you get to a place of dissatisfaction where you want it to change. Once you're there, you enter a place called the emotional threshold.
It's where you say to yourself, “No more. I’m done with this.”
You’ll typically have a moment of insight, otherwise known as an aha moment. If you act on the aha moment, it will change your entire life. But the challenge for most people is they don't know how to act on it or apply their aha moment. They just know that change needs to happen. Following that aha moment is a window of opportunity.
Yet, most people will look at the window and refuse to go through it because they’re letting their old default programming dictate their choices. And the window will close, forcing people to go back to their old ways and wake up 6 months from now in the exact same spot.
Successful people? They activate their rewiring by leaping through that window of opportunity.
Right now, you’re in an important place in your journey, because you’re probably wondering, “How do I actually change?”
